Abstract

This study aimed to identify the diversity of body weight, shoulder height, body length and chest circumference of local goats in Talaga Raya District, Buton Tengah Regency. The location of this study was determined by purposive sampling based on the largest population. The material used was 109 local goats (46 males and 63 females) aged 6-24 months. The variables observed included body weight, shoulder height, body length, and chest circumference of local goats. The data obtained were corrected to 12-24 months and then analyzed descriptively based on the average value, standard deviation, coefficient of diversity and the results of the comparison test between males and females using the Student's t-test. Pearson correlation analysis was used to identify the closeness of the relationship between variables. The results showed that the body weight and body length of male and female local goats were not significantly different. Still, female local goats' shoulder height and chest circumference were significantly higher than males. The coefficient of diversity ranged from 4.25% (shoulder height) to 8.14% (chest circumference) in males and 3.80% (shoulder height) to 5.91% (body weight) in females. The correlation analysis results showed that male goats' body weight was highly positively correlated with body length and chest circumference. In contrast, the body weight of female goats was highly positively correlated with shoulder height, body length and chest circumference. It was concluded that the diversity of body weight, shoulder height, body length and chest circumference in male and female local goats in Talaga Raya District, Buton Tengah Regency, was included in the low category. The results of this study can be the basis for efforts to improve local goats' genetic quality and productivity.
